Air Preparation Units (FRL)

Air leaving a compressor is hot, wet and carries compressor oil; used without treatment it ruins valve spools and cylinder seals within a short time. An FRL set does the job in three stages: the filter separates condensate and solid particles, the regulator holds a steady outlet pressure regardless of fluctuation in the supply, and the lubricator adds a measured amount of oil to the air where that is required. The catalogue lists PNEUBIG body families: Festo type MINI and MIDI bodies (OF, OL, OFR, DR, DC codes), square body AW/AR/AC series and ECO series AFC/AFR/BFR/BR models. Port sizes are offered in 1/4", 1/2" and 1"; single filters, single regulators, single lubricators, filter regulators and two or three piece combinations can all be chosen inside the same body family. Sizing follows the peak flow of the line, not the number of cylinders: an undersized regulator causes pressure drop and visible slowdown when several cylinders move at once. Most modern cylinders and valves run unlubricated, so a lubricator is not needed in every circuit; on a line that has once been lubricated, however, cutting the lubrication later is equally wrong.
