Pneumatic Cylinders

Pneumatic cylinders convert line air pressure into linear motion: force equals piston area times supply pressure. Single acting models return on a spring, double acting models on air fed to the opposite chamber. Forces are lower than in hydraulics, but the solution is faster, cleaner and cheaper per circuit. The catalogue lists PNEUBIG TN series mini cylinders with Ø10, Ø16, Ø20 and Ø25 mm piston diameters and stroke options of 25, 50, 100 and 150 mm. For compact, guided mounting there is the MGPM 32×100 model. Where position feedback is needed, cylinders are planned together with magnetic sensors. Selection starts from the force required: at 6 bar line pressure a Ø20 cylinder produces roughly 190 N of theoretical thrust, and friction plus back pressure mean not all of it is usable. Stroke, mounting style, working speed and end of stroke impact are then evaluated. Where speed is high or the mass is large, choosing the cylinder is not enough on its own: fitting a shock absorber at end of stroke visibly extends machine life.
